ASABA, DELTA STATE — Delta State Commissioner for Technical Education, Hon. Smart Ijeoma Ufoh, has joined Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and millions of Nigerians in commemorating the 2026 Democracy Day celebration, describing the occasion as a reminder of the nation’s collective commitment to freedom, justice, good governance, and people-centered development.

In his Democracy Day message to Deltans, particularly the people of Aniocha South and Delta State at large, Ufoh expressed gratitude to God for the continued survival and growth of Nigeria’s democratic institutions while praying for greater peace, prosperity, and unity across the country.

According to the Commissioner, democracy remains meaningful only when its dividends are felt by ordinary citizens through improved infrastructure, quality education, economic opportunities, and responsive leadership.

“Democracy is not merely about elections; it is about ensuring that government serves the people effectively and delivers measurable improvements in their lives,” he stated.

Ufoh commended Governor Oborevwori’s administration for sustaining developmental projects across Delta State under the MORE Agenda, emphasizing that investments in education, technical skills acquisition, youth empowerment, and infrastructure remain critical pillars for long-term prosperity.

His remarks come amid ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Technical Education to strengthen vocational and technical learning across the state. The ministry has continued to pursue reforms aimed at equipping young people with practical skills for employment and entrepreneurship, while supporting the governor’s vision of technological advancement and human capital development.

The Commissioner also urged citizens to remain steadfast in supporting democratic institutions, noting that democracy thrives best when citizens actively participate in governance and hold leaders accountable through constructive engagement.

“As we celebrate Democracy Day, let us renew our commitment to the values that unite us as a people. Let us continue to work together to build a stronger, more prosperous Delta State and a better Nigeria for future generations,” he said.

Addressing the people of Aniocha South, Ufoh offered prayers for continued peace, progress, and development in the constituency, expressing confidence that greater opportunities and government interventions would continue to reach communities across the area.

Political observers note that Ufoh’s Democracy Day message reflects the broader mood within the Delta State Government, which has consistently emphasized inclusive governance, educational advancement, and grassroots development as key drivers of sustainable growth.

As Nigeria marks another year of uninterrupted democratic governance, the Commissioner called on citizens to remain hopeful and united, stressing that the nation’s future depends on collective responsibility, patriotism, and a shared commitment to democratic ideals.

For many Deltans, Democracy Day serves not only as a celebration of political freedom but also as an opportunity to reflect on the progress achieved and the work that still lies ahead in building a more prosperous and equitable society.
