In an era, when diplomacy and positive interpersonal intelligence has become expensive and almost unavailable, seeing that on display deserves enormous applaud and commendation.
Delta state branch of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria ( ASCSN) has made headlines in the last two years, as a labour association plagued with dissension and disharmony. With cases in court arising from the fall out of a delegate election, one would expect that peace is no where within the horizon.
The atmosphere in the ASCSN hall on Thursday the 18th of March 2024, was a surprising departure from the outcome expected. As the National Vice Chairman of RATTAWU, Comrade Innocent Ofuonyeadi would put it; “There was war and trouble in Galilee, but I am surprised that all the war heads are here, peaceful and fraternizing. I left everything to come see it my self. ”

Also, in a remark that prefaced the advice and commendation of the National Deputy Secretary General of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, Comrade Chukwuma Igbokwe, he stated that it was a good feeling being in the atmosphere of positive ambience noticeable in the hall of the state ASCSN in Asaba.
Comrade Igbokwe emphasized that the peace and harmony in the hall was a sharp contrast to what he witnessed two years ago, when he couldn’t gain entrance owing to the raging war in the Association. “When you go to war among yourselves in the union, your employer rejoices. The welfare that is the essence of the union, cannot be negotiated or gotten in such atmosphere. I thank Comrade Bolum and his EXCO for the miracle done to bring this about.

HOW DID THIS PEACE AND HARMONY COME TO ASCSN DELTA STATE ?
“We came to the obvious knowledge that we have much to lose and practically nothing to gain, should we continue in this trajectory of fighting among ourselves,” comrade Bolum said, while speaking to the media at the end of the inauguration of the unit EXCOS of ASCSN, in Asaba. We have so many things to put together and demand from the state and federal government for the good and benefit of our people. Going to war among ourselves was a needless and unnecessary distraction, hence I just have to look for a way we can talk to ourselves so that we can focus on our main responsibilities.”

Labour leaders and other senior officers in the civil service had, while admonishing the elected unit EXCOS of the association, commended Comrade Bolum led state executive for the initiative and efforts put into bringing peace and harmony to the association.
