The Delta State Commissioner for Technical Education, Hon Smart Ijeoma Ufoh, has praised Delta State Governor Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori for transforming technical education and equipping young people with globally competitive skills capable of driving entrepreneurship and industrial growth.
Speaking during an interview on Tuesday in Asaba to mark the governor’s third anniversary in office, Ufoh said the administration’s investment in technical education has repositioned the sector and created new opportunities for students across the state.
According to the commissioner, the government has embarked on massive infrastructure development in technical schools, alongside the provision of modern equipment and continuous manpower development for teachers and instructors.
He disclosed that several state-of-the-art technical colleges have already been completed and commissioned by the Oborevwori administration, while others are nearing completion and are expected to commence academic activities soon.
“These institutions are built to high standards and designed to provide practical, skills-based education,” Ufoh said.
He added that the state government has invested billions of naira in modern training equipment currently being installed in technical schools to ensure students gain hands-on experience aligned with current industry demands.
The commissioner noted that the administration’s vision is to produce self-reliant graduates capable of establishing businesses and contributing meaningfully to economic growth, rather than depending entirely on white-collar employment.
Ufoh explained that students are being trained in several vocational and engineering disciplines, including mechanical works, civil engineering, electrical installation, plumbing, carpentry, bricklaying, and other technical trades critical to industrial development.
He further revealed that graduates of the state’s technical schools receive dual certifications, including the National Skills Qualification (NSQ) certificate and other recognised technical qualifications, making them employable both within Nigeria and internationally.
The commissioner also highlighted the administration’s focus on teacher development, saying regular workshops and training programmes are organised to improve the capacity of instructors and enhance the quality of technical education delivery across the state.
Describing Governor Oborevwori’s leadership as focused and results-driven, Ufoh said the administration has continued to deliver impactful projects across various sectors.
He expressed confidence that the ongoing reforms in technical education would position Delta State as a leading hub for vocational training and skills development in Nigeria.
