A group of journalists under the banner of Core Correspondents of the Warri Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has expressed confidence in the Delta State Council of the union ahead of the chapel’s forthcoming election scheduled for March 16, 2026.

In a press statement issued by the group, the journalists said they had closely monitored the processes leading to the election and were satisfied with how the exercise had been handled so far by the Delta State Council.
The correspondents commended the council, led by Chairman Comrade Churchill Oyowe, for what they described as a transparent and responsible management of the electoral process.
The statement reads:
“We, the undersigned bona fide members of the Warri Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), have closely monitored the processes and procedures leading to the conduct of the Chapel’s election scheduled for Monday, March 16, 2026.

“After a careful assessment of the developments so far, we wish to unequivocally pass a vote of confidence on the Delta State Council of the NUJ, the supervising authority for the election, under the leadership of its Chairman, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, for the transparent, fair and responsible manner in which the process has been managed.

“Our confidence in the integrity of the process is anchored on the professionalism, constitutionality and impartiality demonstrated by the State Council in addressing all issues raised by stakeholders, particularly during the Claims and Objections stage, including the petition concerning the eligibility of voters.

“The manner in which these concerns were handled reflects due diligence, respect for due process and adherence to the provisions guiding the conduct of Chapel elections within the Union.
“We therefore strongly urge that the electoral process be allowed to proceed to its logical conclusion without unnecessary interference, undue pressure or attempts by any individual or group to undermine or discredit the exercise.

“In this regard, we call on the National leadership of the Union, members of the Chapel and the general public to disregard any statements or narratives aimed at casting doubt on the credibility of the ongoing process, as such actions do not represent the collective position or interest of members of the Warri Correspondents’ Chapel.
“We remain confident that the Delta State Council will continue to discharge its supervisory responsibility with fairness, neutrality and integrity until the successful conclusion of the election.

“As colleagues committed to the unity and progress of the Chapel, we also call on all contestants and members to sustain the spirit of professionalism, decorum and healthy engagement as campaigns continue ahead of the March 16, 2026 election.
“We believe that a peaceful, credible and widely accepted election will further strengthen the cohesion, credibility and institutional integrity of the Warri Correspondents’ Chapel.”

The statement was signed by Ben Dunno, Dele Fasan, Emmanuel Ogoigbe, Dele Ogunyemi, Gbenga Amed, Chido Okafor, Ebenezer Adurokiya, Betty Idialu, Njideka Igbani, Emma Arubi, Sylvester Idowu and Juliet Samson on behalf of the Core Correspondents of the Warri Correspondents’ Chapel.
