As Nigeria marks another Democracy Day, Hon. Collins Iwebuno, Executive Director (ICT) of the Delta State Board of Internal Revenue and Convener of the Enuani Democratic League (EDL), has commended the people of Delta State for their unwavering commitment to democratic values and active participation in the nation’s democratic process.
In a Democracy Day message released on Thursday, Iwebuno described the occasion as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s political evolution, noting that the resilience, dedication, and civic engagement demonstrated by Deltans continue to strengthen democratic institutions and promote good governance across the state.

According to him, democracy thrives when citizens actively participate in governance through voting, constructive engagement, accountability, and support for policies that advance the collective good of society.
“Democracy remains the most viable platform through which the aspirations of the people can be expressed and realized. I commend the people of Delta State for their steadfast commitment to democratic principles and their continuous support for peace, unity, and development,” Iwebuno stated.

The EDL convener emphasized that the progress recorded in Delta State over the years has been made possible through the collaborative efforts of government and citizens, stressing that democratic governance flourishes best where citizens remain vigilant, responsible, and actively involved in shaping public policy.
He further urged Deltans to continue supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening democratic institutions, promoting transparency, and fostering inclusive development across the state’s diverse communities.

Iwebuno also paid tribute to past and present leaders, civil society advocates, and citizens whose sacrifices have contributed to the preservation of democratic governance in Nigeria. He noted that Democracy Day serves not only as a celebration of political freedom but also as a reminder of the collective responsibility to protect and deepen democratic gains.

Reflecting on the current administration in Delta State, he called for sustained unity and cooperation among stakeholders, emphasizing that development can only be accelerated when leaders and citizens work together toward common goals.
“As we celebrate Democracy Day, let us recommit ourselves to the ideals of justice, equity, accountability, and service. The future of our democracy depends on our collective resolve to uphold these principles and ensure that governance continues to serve the interests of the people,” he added.

The ICT executive expressed optimism about the future of Delta State and Nigeria, stating that the growing political awareness among citizens, particularly the youth, presents a unique opportunity to further consolidate democratic governance and drive sustainable development.
As the nation commemorates Democracy Day, Iwebuno’s message echoes a broader call for civic responsibility, unity, and renewed commitment to the democratic values that continue to shape Nigeria’s progress.

“A vibrant democracy is sustained not only by elected leaders but by the active participation of informed and responsible citizens.” — Collins Iwebuno.
The Democracy Day celebration across Delta State witnessed reflections on the nation’s democratic journey, with political leaders, stakeholders, and citizens alike reaffirming their commitment to preserving democratic institutions and advancing the dividends of democracy for all.
